Our Program

Our focus for our 3 year old program is social, emotional growth. We want the students to get acclimation to group experiences, classroom routines and problem solving through friendship skills. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving environment that allows them to transition from a home setting to a school  setting in the most gentle way possible. Though academics is a part of our day, our main focus is social and emotional development. We strive to make their experience in this setting positive and exciting so that they begin their classroom journey feeling confident and secure.  Our 3 year old class is a great transition into our 4 year old program!

Our 4 year program is set up as a blend of social/emotional and academic skills.  We use our time together to gain knowledge in areas such as literacy, math, fine motor, writing, and exploration, while also diving further into social skills and team work.  We provide a play-based curriculum that allows our students to explore the world around them in a guided, safe way.  This class is set up as a transition to pre-k or kindergarten.  During the 4 year old year, we focus on what each child needs to prepare them for the year ahead.

The pre-k program is a great opportunity for those not old enough or simply need another year under their belt before heading to kindergarten.  We use this year to take all of our learning to the next level and prepare our students for more enriched lessons.  While maintaining a play-based curriculum, we dive even further into academics and offer activities that challenge them to take on new, interesting learning.  This is a great year to gain confidence in themselves as peers and as learners.

In addition to partnering with many local organizations, we are proud to be one of three schools in the state of Iowa that partner with the Natural Start Alliance.

Hear from our happy parents!

The Schaufenbuel Family

Sending our kids to Raccoon River Preschool has been one of the best decisions we have made for our family. We’ve had 2 kids go and our experience with this school has exceeded any expectations we could have. The teachers are so patient, gentle, and kind with the kids and they really put in so much effort to make school such a fun place to learn. We appreciate the amount of time they spend outside and how they focus on important things like everyday life skills and how to be a good friend. My son’s confidence has blossomed over the last few years and I’m so confident that he’ll be ready for kindergarten because of Raccoon River Preschool and the amazing teachers here!

The Bowers Family

My son ended up at RRP at the last minute due to a different school option falling through. And I am so happy it did. We couldn’t have ended up at a better school. My son struggled for a while adjusting to being somewhere other than his familiar surroundings and away from family. The teachers were patient, loving, and kind with both my son and I! As a parent it’s hard to see your child sad but I was so confident he was in the most caring hands possible. We are coming back for 4 year old preschool and I have no doubt it’s where we are meant to be!
